CHE 0STM
CHE OS is a software version of Semtek's Cipher Hidden Encryption that functions in a nearly identical way to our standard CHE, but does so without needing a Cipher Security hardware Module to operate. CHE OS is instead an update to the point of sale devices' operating system that provides for transparent encryption of card data.
CHE OS is useful for rapid adoption initiatives where the terminal operating system of the point of sale can be updated. This encryption methodology provides for strong data encryption, without any disruption to the merchant’s systems.
Unlike standard encryption functionality, Semtek’s CHE OS functions within the tamper-resistant security module (TRSM) of existing point of sale devices that have achieved a validated state of physical security such as PED 2.0. Encryption alone is not sufficient for security: The entire encryption process must take place inside a physically secure environment in order to legitimately provide for end-to-end encryption security.
Customers are using CHE OS where they are facing a severe time crunch to secure their systems (e.g., PCI DSS compliance purposes) or have rejected conventional end-to-end encryption schemes that rely on native encryption standards as too disruptive or too expensive.
CHE OS is fully supported by Semtek's network side appliances and can operate side by side with Semtek’s Cipher Security Modules.
